Fingerboard

These days it is so hard to get good quality ebony. Good ebony should have a close porous surface and polish to a glossy shine. A good fingerboard will last for years. A fingerboard that is too think or thin will have an affect on sound production.  Baroque instruments used to have a veneered fingerboard to achieve a bright tone.
